The state of things

What has Igg been up to? Flavor behind the cut. If you dare. I’m glaring at the screen with an evil eye as I type this. That’s how you know this cut means business.

Things have been a busy in IggDawgLand as of late. 2 of the big things that have had me busy are moving to Leominster and my cars all shitting the bed on me. The moving part is self explanitory. Most everyone has had to move at some point, so you probably know how time consuming it is. When one works 3rd shift and is supposed to be sleeping during the day, it simply adds insult to injury.

The main thing that’s had me under wraps has been the cars and their breakingness. The CRX has been dead in the water (er… pavement) for some time. The day after I left the windows open during a snowstorm, the car wouldn;t start. I don’t think it has anything to do with having the interior of the car coated in a toasty blanket of snow since I’ve isolated the trouble to the starter reccently. As a result of that car being dead I picked up a ’92 SVX that appeared to be in good shape. the SVX has been slowly dying over the last couple months. 4th gear went, 3rd gear is mostly gone, the cooling system has major issues, and recently the engine failed. The engine has been fixed after several days of troubleshooting, a trip to the junkyard, some fabrication, and a zip tie. but there’s still the other issues. basically, I’m limited to 1st and 2nd gear mostly, and if I cruise at 60mph or so without accellerating I can use 3rd. all this means elevated engine speeds because I can’t use 4th gear. the cooling system has severe contamination (which I haven’t found the source of yet), and its ability to cool is severely reduced. all this comes together ass so: my cooling system has reduced efficiency due to contamination, I have to drive slow (which means reduced airflow), and in low gears (meaning increased engine speed and heat production. these factors, along with warmer weather, lead to the engine overheating. this leads to accelerated death of the transmission. all in all: bad thing. I need to replace the transmission and figure out how to fix the cooling system.

I’m looking at cars this weekend. I’ll be spending around 10k to get something that won’t break. not only can’t I afford car repairs (time-wise and resource-wise), but I’m too far along in life to be dicking around with $2000 beaters. I’m a little pissed at the whole situation. anyays… that will give me a reliable ride while I fix the SVX and either sell it or keep it around as a “for fun” car. with a fixed tranny and functioning cooling system, it should still be a fun car. all the same I think I’d rather get rid of it. then there’s the CRX.. we won;t talk about the CRX……

Hopefully my long string of recent snags are more or less over. I’d like to have a social life again. From what I hear it can be quite nice.

if you want to get back into roleplaying, me, mike, jon, and my brother might have something semi-regular going this winter.

that’s not quite a *social* life by some accounts, but hey.

I thought long and hard about that. I loved my BC. but I want something newer. nothing major ever went wrong on mine, but a bunch of little things did. I don;t really have the time to take care of constant little fixes (or the garage space). miss my SS though =(

spend a few thousand more and get a brand new car…then you don’t have to worry so much about repairs.

    (I love my honda!)

if I buy one a couple years old, it’s almost as good as new, and someone else has paid for the giant chunk of depreciation you take when you drive the car off the lot for the first time

yeah, but when I bought my car…paid cash…only had 2 miles on it when I test drove it…I took the plastic off before test driving…and gotta tell ya, nothing like that feeling of knowing that you’re the ONLY one that could have possibly done ANY kind of damage…it was great.
