“Cisco to sue Apple over iPhone”

Apparently Cisco has owned rights to the product name “iphone” for a decade or so. if Apple thinks they have a shot at Cisco they are loopy. It’s not like it was a devious move by Cisco, the name was logical for them to take for their IP Telephone devices. And it was take back before the ipod was around or any of the other Apple i-stuff.

The court case would go something like:

Apple: “We believe we should be abl…”
Cisco: “Cisco SMASH”
Apple: (dies)

For those who don’t know, Cisco is a massive company. The internet pretty much lives on Cisco devices.

over twice the size of Apple by market capitalization – very significant, esp. when you consider that Apple is the market darling, so likely overvalued (though I haven’t looked) on spec….

does that even include contribution from Cisco’s other segments like Linksys?

probably…but market cap is a gross distortion of the actual physical importance of a company.

actually, looking at the figures, Cisco is housing Apple on just about every measure…

4x the operating cash flow – very busy bees at Cisco.

        Not that Apple looks bad.

yeah, cisco is very serious about their products. we’re partners with them for IP telephony support, and they are about as “on their game” as any company can get. serious business for sure.

I like that they’re trying to sell Apple TV in Canada even though they have no plans to make content legally available for it. So it’ll essentially be a really expensive plastic sculpture that sits on your tv.

O_o…. I can’t imagine why they would even bother? the “it’s apple, people will by it because lowercase i is sexy” effect perhaps?

I figure they’ll work out a deal to where apple gives Cisco X amount of dollars for every phone sold. The two “iphones” are different enough that they can easily co-exist with a little payoff to cisco from apple.

kateprice, are movies and TV shows from itunes not available in Canada? That would be the “legal content” and not selling movies/tv shows on Canadian itunes doesn’t sound likely.

~~Quentin <3's his imac and ipod and would love an iphone but not for $600.
