I read something a month or so about this guy. Basically he got sucked into Scientology, and of course that became his life in terms of friends and business associates. Apparently he was trying to make this movie (which looked similar to Uve Boll’s “Postal” – absolutely gross and offensive for the sake of being gross and offensive). The “Scientology Court” ended up with something against this guy, and basically ran him out, taking all his friends and partners (and customers of his business) with him. So he ended up finishing the movie on his own years later due to him being 9apparently) really good at selling crap at flea markets, which eventually led to Shamwow and the like.

And also, apparently, he uses every bit of profit (from the movie, at least, since he’s also buying hookers) to fight Scientology. The article (well, more like blog post, I guess) that I read all this in had this slant of “see, he’s not such a bad guy after all, and we should support him for standing up to the man. While I agree it’s not a bad cause, it certainly doesn’t make him any less of a fuckwit, whether or not his life was ruined by anyone else or not.
